Math Major

Mathematics is designed to convey both appreciation for and ability to use techniques and strategies of mathematical reasoning. In required courses, the mathematical structures and applications that have led to more efficient organization and synthesis of mathematical knowledge are covered.

Everything from coal efficiency to biometrics identification systems to predicting lung disease are being researched by WVU mathematicians and statisticians, and you could be a part of that research as well.

All Mathematics Majors will take the same core Mathematics courses. You may also select an optional Area of Emphasis to help guide your upper level elective choices toward more specific interests or career options.

Area of Emphasis:

  • Actuarial Science - for more information click here
  • Computational Mathematics
  • Mathematics Biology
  • Mathematics Education
  • Physical Applied Mathematics
  • Pure Mathematics
